It was I. the last few hundred metres. Kiplimo went down one side of a long, intermittent traffic island, whilst Sawe went down the other. Kiplimo then veered across, jumping over/running on the cobbled section, to get behind Sawe. And it looked to me like Kiplimo lost it there. Immediate thought was should the organisers have had marshals pointing to go down the correct side of the road.

I think if JI wants to be up there running with the best in the world at HM, then he has to respect the distance and not race the Diamond League 1500m final less than 48 before.

It's not just the actual running 1500m at 3:30 pace, it's the whole stuff that goes with a major race beforehand and afterwards of interviews, pre-race nerves, etc, etc that uses up body energy when he should have his feet up and be chilling

Yeah I thought they could go either side initially but it seems not. Actually watching the women, it does seem that some are finishing down that side?

Kipkemboi the women's winner in 65:02 I believe.

@K5 Gus or speak to Hassan, lol.

Championship races are different to paced races though. I'm surprised he didn't go with something more conservative given his comments seem to suggest he hadn't done specific training and just did it as a test.

Ingebrigtsen actually finished in 63:13 with the run/ walk method for the last 11.1km it seems.

Apparently stopped at 10km in some discomfort. Kudos for finishing, and that's begrudgingly so from me!!

The discomfort was going too fast though (confirmed in his interview unless I missed a bit). He said he won't be doing another for a couple years. It does seem he's shocked himself in terms of what he needs to do to run the distance competitively.

I suspect Kerr is doing his HM in a much more controlled manner trying to build endurance for the 1500 rather than trying to get the absolute maximum out of himself/ compete with the best.

Before the race, he said he hoped that this outing on the road would mean he wouldn’t have to do another one for a couple of years.

Did he break his club record? I don’t think he did, did he?

I hadn't heard that pre race comment but he said 21km is too long after the race. There was a quote from an interview in February doing the rounds where he said HM was probably his best distance and 1500 his worst. It might end up his best distance but I presume he realises that some specific work may be needed even if his general training is conducive to being good at HM.
