The massive chunk of buyers are businesses and/or company drivers (plus salary sacrifice) due to the tax benefits. A lot more private "buyers" are leasing these days to hedge potential depreciation concerns. These won't count in your 10% figure as the cars are "owned" by the lease company |

HG (and others) it's almost like some are in the same world politicians are and so far removed from a lot of society. £30k/£20k it's all the same. That's SO far from the money aot of people have for a car. EV take up is by the general public awful, not sure what's gained from repeatedly ignoring why this might be and just making out it's all perfect in EV world. In 33 years (number cars) ownership I have bought new once (that was like £7k) Had one other car £2.7k then rest I think £1500 or less. I work, always have, don't spend fortunes on other things and am reasonably well educated. |

Yes, obviously, but it means you are paying the lease company, not taking the variability yourself. You could win or lose, same as fixing a gas contract. Took me longer to find answer than I thought. Hyundai Kona Premiun (mid level out of 3) No. One website saod all do, another said the Ultimate does. But price sheet says £875 option on all models. Why do you ask? Using heating depletes the range. But not to a level that I worry about. G |

HT, I was answering Fenners question about £30 EV, which isn't case. A quick Google finds: ... newer models that match their in-demand 2023-2024 counterparts will fetch you a higher price. On average, a used car in the UK costs roughly £18,000 So my 20K wasn't crazy. I absolutely appreciate that you have been more frugal in your choice of car and that's fine. Not everyone needs or wants a bigger or newer car. As JDA says plenty avail for less too. But EVs are a relatively newer technology and there aren't many older ones yet. There will be as time goes on. G |

@HappyTimes there is an opinion, not going to say right or wrong, that at the moment, EVs are very much a middle class feel-good-about-themselves as they are actively doing something to save plant. However, if you're on average wage, where is the £20k/£30k coming from? If you go down the lease route you still need to lay your hands on a bundle of cash, plus the monthly payments are not insiginificant. |

Fenners I agree with what's said there.

I think most if not all of us who have EVs appreciate that it's not a viable option for everyone at the moment - either initial price wise or if you don't have the access to charge from home. But those of us who can have and we talk about them on this thread. Over time - with older 2nd hand cars and further developments it will become more affordable, and I would expect there to be increased uptake. |

And F-R - do you dismiss anyone who tries to do something to reduce their carbon footprint as just smug "feel-good-about-thenselves"?
