Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

santababy, I think you're being unfair to Judithvr6. I don't think she was planning of "harrassing" SA at the moment. Her post says she was going to contact them when the 28 days are up. Surely, at that stage, it will be appropriate to ask SA two things: (a) whether SA will revoke the licence for the Scottish Half Marathon on September 6th 2014 as Section 12 of the FAQ for that race (currently) says GSI plan only to publish the results of the top three winners; (b) whether SA will accept an application from GSI for a permit for the 2015 EMF.

What happens after 28 days of talking then? I realise if athletes break governing body rules the can be fined and or banned from competition. Is it just a case of carry on doing as you please if you are a big enough race organiser?
It is after all SA rules and not GSI rules or am I wrong?

I was thinking about DanA's point about participant numbers sometimes being withheld on a commercial basis. Pretty hard to get away with in an event which would be expected to publish same and retain any credibility. I'm bothered because it has upset people I know, it reflects badly on Edinburgh and Scotland and because Edinburgh is just up the road and I might even swallow paying the excessive enty fee sometime and participate if I had a reasonable expection that the event would not, in some way, turn out once again as a shambles.

Anyway, I also like stats so here are some: might give people some holiday ideas ;-) laufmarkt.de

From other races i have always been advised chip timing adds circa £1 - £2 so please lets not pretend this company is doing anything other than make big profits from inaccurate advertising at best.

HappyTimes, the answer to your question is: SA should consider two things: revoke the permit for the Scottish Half and publicise that it will not be granting a permit for the 2015 EMF.

Ultracat, yes, you do not need a permit from SA to organise a race. There are plenty of races that take place without a permit. However, if a race does not have a permit from SA, then it is clear to people from the outset that the results will not finish up in powerof10/runbritain rankings.

Ultracat, yes you can. To attract competitors you would want your race registered, therefore entrants are confident that rules are being adhered to, for example accurate race length, results publication, etc.

I didn't take that as santababy thinking I was planning on harassing SA.
Though I did post full details of SA for others to be able to contact and ask the same questions that I have asked (and had very patiently and speedily answered for which I sent my thanks).

And re needing a permit. I have no experience or information on the fact but I can't see getting road closures etc agreed without some sort of paperwork from a recognised body showing that an event is aware of and agreeing to all the obligations involved.

I would imagine that the requirements for organising a race with or without a permit are very similar, if not the same. You'll have the usual stuff to sort out for insurance, traffic, emergency, water, volunteers etc. etc. however, not having a NGB permit would make it a little harder and probably more expensive, also...you would struggle to get 'elite' types to run the race too as there would be no official ratification of the times etc.

Your comment on page 46 "I think its a disgrace and an embarassment to my hometown." Are you sure you are not talking about the trams again. :P
