Past experts: is it worth paying for the shuttle back, or is it as easy to get the train/bus back into Edinburgh (I'm staying centrally near the start)?

The shuttle buses have been a nightmare in the past. There are normal buses or a train station both of which will get you back to town more quickly, seems to have been the previous wisdom. I'm a local, so I just drive it! Good luck and enjoy! :-) G

We walked round the corner from the shuttle buses and caught the train. 10 mins or so to central and cheaper. Check the timetable though as I think we had a bit of a wait. Ticket machine on the platform.

Come out of the finish area onto Pinkie Road, turn left cross the road and walk about two bus stops past the ques at the bus stops, past the shop, and you'll get a bus with no que, and a seat. It's the same every year, people wait at the first bus stop walk a bit and there'll be no que and you'll get a seat. One year first had buses queing up and charging £1 into the city, lrt the red ones are £1.60. Keep walking to the shuttle buses and you're at the train station, one train an hour though and maybe extra's but probably not these days, £3.90 into the city. Bus is about 30-45 minutes train is 10.

Andy, would that be past the Nisa Local and heading back towards the roundabout at the Levenhall Arms?

Purephase and I will be staying the night before and heading (hopefully if enough interest) home on a bus our running club hires but I was caught out back in 2011 with the shuttle buses and it was hellish.

Good infor about the shuttle buses. I had similar questions myself and this seems to have cleared them up.

I'm just wondering if the marathon put on any buses or anything like that which depart from Glasgow on the morning of the event? I live in Glasgow and would quite like to avoid accommodation costs if I can.
