12 elapsed months was always my understanding. Could be slower, 0.25% rises. Let's hope interest rates go down sooner rather than later. ![]() |

This piece is coming from a right-of-centre perspective, and it might be harder hitting if he'd compared us with countries in Europe, rather than the US, but still pretty interesting. sambowman.co |

That was the essay I indirectly referred to in my blog on Wednesday. Worrying stuff.

I'd like to see some of the metrics changing in our climate crisis world. We can't keep chasing "growth" and "production" as the primary measures of success.

Production is different from productivity. Higher efficiency will ultimately lead to lower energy consumption, a point which is clear when you think of cars. The more we can do with less the better.

Productivity is measured as gross domestic product(GDP) per hour of work. This data is adjusted for inflation and differences in the cost of living between countries. ourworldindata.org Err, so I think Productivity does measure production. In the sense that it is per hour of work, which is related to population, which unless you cull people, doesn't change. Increased productivity = increased GDP / value / production (and actually, because we don't export much, for UK it = consumption). I agree, if we could consume less, produce less and actually do it all more efficiently, using less energy and raw materials, that would be a good measure. But that's not the current measure. ![]() |

Yes, they have a problem there with the economy potentially overheating, not something that applies in Europe.
