I went to the pub this evening and drank a beer I had not tried before. It was called Golden Newt so it seemed appropriate

Today, I had a go for the first time at making up a rota that would give all my colleagues fixed working days. This is complicated by the fact that none of us works quite full-time and everyone wants Friday as a day off and we cover one another's holidays, so even if I take the least appealing combination of days for myself for the first year someone's going to have something to grumble about. But my appraiser volunteered, without me expressing a hint of dissatisfaction, that our current system of no fixed working days would do most people's heads in.

Can't you have fixed working days but rotate Fridays across everyone?
My newt today was seeing the first magnolia flowers of the year. Cheered up a decidedly shitty morning.

Similar to last Monday I did a lunchtime recovery run in the area around work. I've discovered that this bit of Nottingham has lots of paths and tunnels, as well as nice parks, and it's not far to the canal, so even a 3 mile run can include something nice and it's better than being sat at my desk.

We can only rotate Fridays across everyone if we also rotate other days, since everyone has a fixed number of days per week, and then it all goes to shit on weeks when someone is off.
I'm tempted to turn the job over to VP and Tink, separately, to see what they come up with, though I think I've produced the least bad set of permutations.

I forgot that yesterday I was second marking a lot of work on rhetoric, so I learnt a lot of newt stuff. So newts are even accessible from your desk
Today I have had plain soya yoghurt with agave syrup as part of the ongoing veganisation of our house

It's quite interesting actually (with apols to the old hands here - V'rap, I'm looking at you). SD has gone vegan for Lent and possibly thereafter and LittleD has gone pescatarian, also for the same timespan. I'm already pescatarian, as you know, so that means we are a 60% non meat-eating household.
It's a nice challenge trying to adapt our usual meals to have a vegan alternative, although OH slipped up with the roast yesterday and put butter in the gravy and honey on the carrots Still, early days. I'm enjoying the vegan alternatives as I'm not a massive fan of milk.
