Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Great Raemondo
After a moderate to high level of soul searching I've applied for a job that could, in the relatively unlikely event I end up getting it, become the basis for a wholesale move back to Wales.

We'll have been out here for ten years next month and, while there is an awful lot about our life that I love, neither of us is totally happy in our work. As other options here are fairly limited for both of us (not helped by the damn B word at all, of course, with britishers being less attractive to employers or just plain ineligible for certain roles), it means thinking about moving on.

It's a big mental leap to even consider relocating again, and the prospect of giving up permanent residence on the mainland and various things we've put a lot of time and effort into over the last decade is definitely daunting, but we never really planned to stay here forever.

Rae, I am in the same position... But reversed: Welsh Borders back to the continent. Been here 26 years... Longest I lived anywhere in my life, but after B, it just doesn't feel quite like home any more... Also, I have as of yet to be granted settled status but was refused permanent residency in 2017, so I may be forced to sell up and leave...

As someone who works in export, as far as I can see the only good thing about Britain in the Post Brexit era is that there's more chance of getting a vaccine in the near future. If I had the choice I'd get jabbed then get out! Sadly I have zero claims on being anything other than British, so I'm stuck here on this godforsaken island!

:(

This isn't the politics thread so I won't go into it any detail, but hopefully it's not too cont to say that it's a sadness to me that any of us should feel forced or constrained in our life decisions like this.

I'm pretty much sure all three of you are Amongst Friends here, but yes, not Politics thread.

Hope Rae and Hanneke don't mind me noting how interesting - in a SAD way - their opposite but almost identical situations are.

From my perspective at least there are also things to get excited about in a potential (very potential, not at all confirmed, really just a concept at the moment) move - so it's not all sad :D

My newt today is running a loop that I haven’t run in yonks and yonks because I couldn’t do the distance (it’s less than 5 miles 🙄). I’m chuffed and relieved that I can now do something other than out and backs :)

About This Thread

Maintained by Sharkie
starblackheartstar The sixth running of Do a New Thing for Spring starblackheartstar

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
