Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi desert fetchies....

I am signed up to do Jordan Ultra Challenge in April, a baby 2 day marathon event.

It is my first time running in the desert, and there is obviously going to be a few challenges.... namely heat and sand.

So I thought I would ask if any fetchies have done any of the desert marathons/events before, whether they could share some advice, thoughts, things to consider I may not have thought of.

I've started to compile my kit list big one being desert gaiters (praying my super cobbler can attach these for me) but I am sure there are many other things we've not even thought of.

Thank in advance!!

There are many chat sites, advice articles and specific kit related to Marathon de Sables which would apply to your event - think I'd be scanning those.

I did a half Ironman in the Nevada desert - it rained - so I couldn't give advice myself.

Thank you TROSaracen, I have been reading up on lots of google posts and race websites (including for Jordan) for all the info. I bought Fixing your Feet book as its my biggest worry (not thinking of camel spiders at the moment haha)

Jordan Ultra are doing a zoom call tomorrow. I was just thinking there must be some Fetchies who can offer some first hand advice. I have been fmailing rocking rory who I had spotted had done a Jordan ultra in the past.

I misread the thread title as Dorset Running, and was about to recommend Upton House parkrun near Poole 😂

Not me EvilPixie , Comrades, Two Oceans and Longtom to name a few. All hot but I'm a sand hater so useless here, sorry.
