When I watch the modern T20 game now, I see shots played that we "invented" more than 30 years ago. The Dilscoop or ramp was born when we played West Indian Cavaliers and our opener kept flicking the bouncers over his head for 6. Pre-helmet days on a deathtrap council pitch.

Morning nickers, morning everyone.

Bit like Rio out there with a drier, warmer weekend to follow, a day to insert?

Anyone play cricket at school? All I remember was one Summer there was a rumour that if you could put the ball through the Headmaster's window he'd give you a Fiver. This would require a big 6 over long off. Thus other than the 3 or 4 kids who could actually play cricket and took the game seriously, the only game in town for the rest of us was to charge down the wicket against any delivery and attempt a huge hit over long off.

Batting I got hit in the bollocks on one attempt (no protection), delivery or two later I think I was stumped off a standard seam delivery. Bowling even with the batsman halfway down the track I failed to take a wicket.

I was shit.

Our PE teacher entered us into a cricket competition when we were first years (modern equivalent is Year 7). The only other schools that played cricket were public schools. We never got an away match funny enough, but did take great delight in absolutely smashing all the posh kids who turned up in Eastwood dressed like Douglas Jardine.
Won the final by bowling them out for 16 and knocking them off in the first over.

No livestock was involved I'm afraid (but a few of the posh kids were definitely chicken)

Morning Sarrers, morning everyone. We played cricket at school sometimes in the summer. At juniors I do recall getting one side out for 7 (it was 7 a side) with one guy getting about 5 lbws. At secondary school there was some twat who went onto play in the Bolton League as an opener and consequently he used to cream the ball everywhere. They should have made him play one handed. I did once take a catch at short leg -if I hadn't had caught it I'd have got it full in the gob.

Greppers I thought the Sunday 'rest day' during test matches was used to go round Botham's to have a BBQ and get slaughtered?

I remember Derek Randall attending a benefit match against Kimberley on the Wednesday night before a Thursday Test at Trent Bridge. He wasn't allowed to play, but did have a couple of beers.

Basher Hassan's benefit in case you're wondering.

The late, great Clive Rice hit a series of sixes out of the ground, over the pub and across Kimberley High Street into a local factory.
