True, entering a race normally does the trick *checks weekend race calendar* nothing...oh dear.

Still, we could level at 2-2 in the final test...

Bowlers are having an off day, and we can't catch, but we might just run them all out by the weekend

296-5.

If we can take the last 5 for 80-100 odd, this will be finely poised....:-)

Vaughan on TMS been saying all morning that a lead of 100 means there's only a 3% chance of that team losing (using all 2000-odd test matches as evidence). If I remember his numbers correctly, it's a 59% chance of winning with a 100 run lead and 28% chance of the draw.

Basically another 20 runs and Pakistan almost cannot lose without England playing unbelievable cricket (or Pakistan folding unbelievably).

Does that cover teams batting first and second though?

I would have said batting first with a first innings lead of 100 is a much bigger advantage; your second innings is on a better pitch and you get to bowl last when the pitch is usually worse.

Batting second, with a lead of 100 still means having to make runs on a day 5 pitch.

We just need to keep the lead to 100, bat well and make at least 300 and then unleash our demon spinner on a day 5 Bunsen *checks team sheet*...

....ah well never mind...;-)

We've got it to do now. Pakistan must be firm favourites given the fragility of some of our batting. Big test now for Hales, Vince and Ballance. Hales and Vince in particular need top cut out the daft shots.

I thought you were referring to Joe Root as our demon spinner for a moment Sarrers.

As far as I understood it, it covered all test matches for the end of the 1st and 2nd inns (i.e. it doesn't matter which team bats first).

BTW - I reckon Roy and Rashid in for Ali and Hales for the Oval.

Rashid - 3 for 32 today: espncricinfo.com
Roy - ton for Surrey: espncricinfo.com

Not sure who will come in for Vince. Perhaps (and this is a long shot) they might drop Vince and play Hales at 5.

Borthwick might be a good shout for the next Test.

Hales is looking like a different player at the moment (let's hope it's not Compton...)
