Oranj
There are three phases of the powerplay (first 10 overs, 30 overs, last 10 overs) en.wikipedia.org . They were designed to even up the scoring rate across an innings to compensate for the new ball and then a possible run chase towards the end although they hardly seem to get much of a mention in the commentary. Others will have to comment on the TV coverage as I usually don't get to watch it - I can't see it on the screen scorecard, I think you're just supposed to know.

They don't seem to have been much of a factor in this World Cup. Other things like the state of the pitch and the timing of the dew fall in the 2nd innnings have had more influence.

Australia's fielding has been good so far, that catch to Rohit was great!

Thanks Oranj. Why does dewpoint help batters?

Dew into the pitch would in theory speed it up. It should be easier to score runs if the ball comes on to the bat better (i.e. doesn't stick in the pitch).

Again thanks. I need to go off and Google the physics of that because instinctively I'd have thought a dry hard pitch would be faster with higher bounce.

Is it in the balance? Feels like Aus on top? :-) G

If there is no dew it will benefit India's spinners as the ball won't grip and turn so much in dew.

Dry and hard is a similar effect, G. I.e. The ball comes on to the bag faster. Dew is not the same effect as rain, which would slow it down.

I don't fully understand the difference either btw. You would think wet of any kind is bad for batting.
