Apparently Dizzy is interested in the role. I'll take that.

Blind leading the blind? Old boys network? Promoted to the point of incompetence? Sh*t always floats to the top? |

On the positive, judging by this from Boycs, if I was Downton, Moores or Whitaker I'd be smartening up my CV over the weekend. Go get 'em Col... telegraph.co.uk Having said that I'm sure Downton was described as a decisive, strong minded man of action when he took up his job... seems that working for the ECB turns you into a dithering committee man, like one of Will Carlings 57 old farts. I though Dizzy had ruled hinmself out and committed to the Tykes for the season? Bet he could be persuaded though....:-) |

Just imagine how bad it would have been if they were still selecting Dernbach...

ah he might be back yet. Actually I was thinking, is the cricket team like the footie team, how many non-england qulaified criketers play in country cricket these days, and do we play 50 over cricket much? |

We certainly didn't play much domestic 50 over cricket as the competition was 40 overs for quite a while recently. I am stunned how incompetent the management have looked; 6 months to prepare for this competition, then changing captains at the last minute (and selecting someone else for the job who wasn't worth his place in the side at the time!), changing no 3 at the last second and once again taking a squad which included players who were 'unselectable'. Learning really has not taken place. We need people in charge who can adapt. Having said that, who would fancy being England cricket coach when you see who's coming up in the next year! |

I'm quietly confident that Moores and Downton are gonners. But the frustrating thing is it'll take 2-3 months to be sorted, valuable preparation time for a huge year of test cricket down the gurgler. The Aussies were a fucking rabble in 2013, they sacked their coach and got the right man in: 3 weeks later they started an Ashes tour and were feisty at least but well beaten - but the coach knew what he needed to do, 5 months later they annihilated us. We could be competitive in the summer if the right things are done quickly. Time to get rid is TODAY. Surely there is no decision, no debate, no need for some exhaustive review to prove what everyone (including probably the players as much as anyone) just a matter of doing it. |

I think you are assuming the ECB is a modern, lithe, decisive business, rather than a gentlemen's club (not that type!) full of old duffers. I hope you're right, I suspect you're wrong.

If the Aussies had had a fully fit fast bowling attack in the summer of 2013 I reckon they'd have cleaned us out then too. If you have bowlers who can take 20 wickets you're always in the game. Now they've got so many young quicks I can see it being a long time before we beat them again. Our firepower is now dreadfully lacking...
