All sorts of gems in here to get you in the mood for Friday. Remembering Willis off his long run, how the commentary has changed (but Richie is still gold), how lucky/freakish the Headingley innings was, smoking indoors in an interview. It's all there... Don't bother looking for that, let alone chasing it.
Botham got pretty lucky but fair enough, he had a go, his bowling was better throughout, that game was won by a few people, Willis, Old, Dilley and Brearley.
Alderman got 43 wickets in the series and was on the losing side!
My favourite cricketing memory of all time, even though I didn't see it. I was with a group of school friends hiking up Pen-y-Fan. One of our party had a small radio tuned to TMS and we all tried to stay as close to him as possible, hoping that the reception would hold and the batteries would last.
I was too young to be interested at that point. My first recollection that stands out (probably helped by the fact that there's a picture of it in my Ashes '85 book) is Geoff Lawson dropping a skier off Allan Lamb in the first test of the 85 series. The crowd thought he'd hit the winning runs, so you can see multiple people invading the pitch in the background as Lawson concentrates on the ball.
