Worse? Root and Malan could have got no runs and we would have lost by an innings. As it was we lost by 9 wickets.

Yes true for any cricket score greater than zero all out, they could always have got fewer runs. But at no point subsequent to the team selection let alone coin toss let alone first ball could it have been described as a serious contest.

It’s clutching at straws but those two getting runs is a positive for them both heading into the 2nd test.

I laughed when I read the articles of could England pull off a miracle win. They didn’t age well.
