England’s average score in five completed second innings this year is 136

Maybe >100 would be time to panic?

Root doesn't indeed want to panic but Silverwood and him need to go away and have a'very serious look at what has gone on the last 5 test matches and do something about it.

But this has been a long time coming. Our bowling and home form has rescued us a lot the last few years. There are some gaping bus sized gaps in our batting order and not a lot of ready made solutions. I fear a fallow few years in the Test arena.

Don't worry, Jos buttler and his destructive one day form will be back to save is against India (sarcasm), despite not being good enough with the bat, nor the best gloveman.

I worry that they'll try malan again, which would be bad for Yorkshire's batting. Or they'll do what they did with Bess - call him up to ferry drinks out (why on earth did they do that - ludicrous given they were never going to play leach, never mind two spinners)

Why bring up Buttler? You’ve got problems at 2,3,5,6 that came in front of who the wicketkeeper is.

But the keeping was also sub standard, as well as his batting. Problems throughout the team and muddled selection.

Butler a lot better than Bracey with bat or gloves. Awful game, he’ll do well to recover from that. A poor selection by Silverback, the guy wasn’t ready.

Hi. I've never been an avid cricket fan, have tuned in for the odd end of test or some of the quicker things like 20-20. But the NZ win was pretty fab to watch. BBC2's Day at the Test is a good way to watch - whole day in 1 hour.

My wife is a kiwi, which allows me to cheer for someone when Scotland or England are getting thrashed in rugby and now cricket! :-) G

“Whole day in one hour”

Actually that was the entire 4th day live :-)
