Just looked it up - Lords 1999. It was one of those England classics, needed 246 to win the series, looked to be going OK at 122-2 with Atherton & Thorpe well set, ended up being all out for 162. The 246 target only came about because no.10 batsman Daniel Vettori got a fifty in a partnership of 80+ for the 9th wicket.

That series in '99 was the Chris Cairns slower ball to Chris Read that did him all over the shop and made him look very foolish, despite it actually being an incredible piece of bowling skill

Who was the previous Gloucs player to play for England in a test? Can't have been very many in the last 20 years.

Didn't realise he'd ever got a game - he was 12th man a few times I think.

'The debutant Ollie Robinson replaces Broad (4-1-12-0). He has a lot going for him - height, seam movement, accuracy and aggression - and I can’t wait to see him in action. Robinson’s languid run-up and action remind me a bit of Derek Pringle........'

The new Derek Pringle then. A lot to live up to, mainly ensuring that he's earnest, keen but NEVER EVER positively impacts the outcome of a test match....

Blimey. If he's the latest incarnation of Derek Pringle that makes him the new Keith Pont. God help us all.

Long hot attritional afternoon ahead. Specialist spinner one end, rotate short bursts of the seamers at the other, bit of a David Warnering the ball to get reverse later - job done.

Apart from the lack of specialist spinner of course....
