No stokes means woakes at 7, which is a problem as I think buttler is far too high at 6.

And he'll keep his place.

Sibley, burns, Crawley, root, pope, buttler looks a fragile unit.

And v inexperienced one too

No Stokes means no balance to the team.

Given Stokes wasn't bowling (or supposed to be bowling) and the team for the last two tests, the balance doesn't change.

Yeah, right, just take away his crucial wickets and runs and we are well and truly shafted.

TRO Saracen
It’s at times like this that the selectors usually recall Tim Bresnan.....

To be honest that batting line up does the job if the man at No. 4 starts producing some match defining innings rather than what you’d expect from an inexperienced test batsman.

He’s been very lucky in that various others in the team have done really well to rescue the side vs SA, WI and now Pakistan. Time for Skip to say to that inexperienced batting line up ‘it’s ok I’ve got your back’ and shape a couple of innings across the next two tests, and carry the side. He’s good enough, but doesn’t do it enough.

I tend to watch the evening test highlights so I catch up with these posts late to avoid spoilers. Enjoyed that win. I have just seen the comments about 10 pages back on players coming forward, LBW and DRS. I had been looking at this because I was trying to explain to my wife why Stokes was playing so far forward.

What I had not realised was that DRS does partly allow for the uncertainty inherent in hawkeye. This is a slight simplification, but apparently if the impact between ball and pad is more than 3m in front of the stumps, then an umpire not out on LBW cannot be changed by DRS and if the impact is between 2.5m and 3m in front then it is only overruled if Hawkeye shows it hitting the middle stump.

I had a quick dig, this comes under conditions rather than laws so it is possible different series will have different conditions......worth a long look.

The Bob Willis trophy is a limited-overs game, of sorts, in that teams are forced to declare their innings after 120 overs. That's meant that the Kent batsmen were motivated to score quickly, at nearly 7 an over this morning against Sussex, on their way to a Kent record partnership of 400 (& counting). Not bad for 19 year old wicket-keeper Jordan Cox currently on 227no.

I wonder how the statisticians will deal with this for record keeping purposes. These are first class games, but not county championship games.
