No answers to the Kiwi conundrum yet.
In the absence of, a tale from my youth. I'm aged 9-12 years old here... you'll all be familiar with the Don using a golf ball and a wicket to practice his hand eye coordination. My version of that was a tennis ball, a normal bat and a wall in a single garage, garage door up. Therefore, shots which were safe were the cover drive and square cut as they could leave the garage towards a brick wall some 30 feet away. Shots that were unsafe but occasionally practiced were anything through the leg side. Extremely unsafe was hitting anything through square leg as that's where the home brew bottles were stored. It was not possible to simply swap sides due to the storage in the garage.
Result? My wagon wheel through my entire career would have occasional punches through the leg side but the majority of runs were scored in the arc between cover and point.

Fairs
Similar to OtG. Summer holidays were mostly spent playing cricket with a bat and stumps that my dad made. 3 players were the minimum required to have a game, with one batting, one bowling and a wicket-keeper. When we only had 3 players, which was quite often, then the fielding had to be done by either the bowler or the keeper so, to keep it manageable, you weren't allowed to run if the ball went to the off side. Hence, throughout my cricket playing years, I was always looking to work the ball to leg, regardless of where it was bowled. I was out LBW and Bowled a lot.

I see Vaughan is saying that the Hundred should not be played in empty grounds. Wasn't that going to happen anyway?

Very prescient, they named it after the number of days of self isolating.
