Oh, must try that more often! Ideally when he already has 4 not 3 😂

Well played England.

Very good series win for England.

Not too many teams win test series there. SA beat Pakistan 3-0 last year and the Aussies 3-1 and India 2-1 the season before. They've had a bit of a bad spell since then, of course.

9 for 100 for Mark Wood in the match. Fair play. MOTM? I must admit, I thought he had shot his bolt with injuries. Turns out he is averaging something like 14 with the ball since he extended his run up(!).

One or two issues to turn to when they go to Sri Lanka.

Gloves - I was espousing Foakes here a day or two ago but Buttler's average is 32 which is what we would expect from a number 7? Nonetheless, Foakes should make the trip, probably as the preferred gloveman.

Pace attack - not all of Broad, Archer, Woakes, Wood, Anderson will be required on a sub continent tour, especially with Stokes able to chip in. Rest for the two veterans?

Batting - there was a suggestion that Jennings should make the trip. To my mind, Crawley has done a good job and should continue his learning.

Spin - it seems they'd love Moeen but Mo seems less keen. Unrequited I think they call that. Parkinson hasn't done a lot (wrong), but managed to get himself below Bess in the pecking order. I suspect Leach and Bess will tour but that Leach's days are sadly numbered on account of his susceptibility to illness (he has Crohn's), with Root as the other spinner if required.

Good series win all told, albeit that the Saffers are below strength. Add Harmer, Olivier and one or two other Kolpaks and they would be a good deal stronger.

Broad & Anderson being rested for Sri Lanka has been the talk for a couple of months now. Is the Sri Lanka series counting in the World Test Championships? (The NZ one didn't, and the England team were quite open about not sending a full-strength squad.)

Re Buttler. He averages 27.43 as keeper, 35.68 when not keeping. Averaged 25.10 last year, 16.20 so far this year.
