To be fair you can't judge the crowd from that photo. MCG holds close to 100,000 people. It just isn't practical to open up the whole stadium for a Sheffield Shield game. I have been to the Gabba for a Sheffield Shield game and it was similar. A few hundred watching the game from a small number of sections in one part of the ground.

njo is right - there were a couple of hundred of us, either in the MCC members’ area or in a public stand next to it. At least our clapping would have carried to the players that way.
