WS, other than moving Denly down a line I'd agree with you. Bairstow I'm in two minds about but inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Roy I'd say is worth the risk: he could learn to adapt his thinking to the longer game, but even if he doesn't there's nobody else that seems able to score more than 10 so if he hits a fast 50+ once a game we're still better off.

Fair enough FR.

Think Roy worth a good run. Bairstow has been off for awhile, I think stick or twist but don't move.

How's Foakes doing this season? He has a better first class average than Denly.

What are the Denly replacement options?

Atherton used some soil to dry the ball, using sandpaper then getting someone else to do it when you're under suspicion is way different imho
I'd bring in Sibley and drop one of the keepers

No need to arse around rearranging deck chairs.

We have prioritised white ball cricket over the last 4 years but increasingly so in the last two years. As the white ball team has improved, so the test team has declined.

Been obvious and apparent for some time, and given the gong now sitting in the ECB trophy cabinet, probably the right call.

Not enough test cricketers around now to put a serious test side out; even more so when Anderson and Broad disappear.

We won’t win a test this series. That test was our banker, and at 122-8 we had it where we wanted. And still got thrashed by 250 runs.

To get a test team back we need the reverse of the last 4 years: new coach, new captain, prioritise test matches and the skills required. Do that and we may have a shot at getting the Urn back in 2023.

Most things have already been said. Root is not captain material and I'm not just saying that after the event, I've been banging that drum for a while. Shame Morgan isn't up to test match cricket as he has the aura of a captain.

I despair. I'm not actually sure who would come in though, nobody is exactly putting their hand up. Once the new ball was gone, how predictable did our bowling look?

Made this point before the test, but when in recent years has any of our middle order made tough runs when they're under the cosh?

Loving the debate on Sky, grumpy Bob vs optimistic Cork😁

I was discussing the team with my mates last night, we were all rather grim. The bowling actually stand up, Stone, Curran will quite adequately replace an unfit Anderson. Actually Curran might do really well v Smith, late swing and all that.

Spin is a problem, Leach is n Lyon, he may well bowl better than Moeen, who seems to have finally had is confidence shot to pieces. It is just England's top order, however you juggle it, Roy/Denly/Buttler/Bairstow is always likely to fold quickly, Stokes has done really well to round of his batting into a much for solid looking proposition.

I watched the highlights of Burns inning again, Aus will work him out, and work him over, I don't see a lot of runs from him from now on, I'd like to be wrong.

But, as it has been for a couple of years, it's the batting, but as usual, a couple of bowling changes will occur.

Jeffrey is going to play for Sussex 2nds to prove his fitness but GP Thorpe has his work cut out this week to improve the batting.

We just had a visit from one of our Australian customers, apparently he was asked whether he had any sandpaper with him as he came through customs 😊
