The condition of the ball is fundamental to cricket, absolutely fundamental to cricket, it decides the fate of the game as much as the pitch and the ability of the players. He is no doubt the best batsman around, but he is a cheat, and he, I effect encouraged others to cheat. He is a cheat in the same was as Lance Armstrong was a cheat, only he got caught much more quickly. I think the ban was lenient, at least another couple of years, a few tests is no deterrent.

I'm with Grumpy Bob that Ali is now unselectable - his batting confidence is worse than Broad's and now his bowling has followed suit. It seems cruel to play him. I'll also go back to my common theme about a lack of mental toughness. Our batsmen should be made to watch Steve Smith's innings several times - an example of how to play the conditions, leave the ball as much as possible, and select the safe shots. Especially Roy. Who would you keep in the team for the next Test?

BTW Lance Armstrong did more than cheat, if that's all he'd done it wouldn't have been half as bad and he'd have been like a few of his fellow pros.
