Others have ball tampered before and got away with much lighter punishment. As far as I'm concerned, they've done their time.

He did more than just tamper with the ball.

The condition of the ball is fundamental to cricket, absolutely fundamental to cricket, it decides the fate of the game as much as the pitch and the ability of the players. He is no doubt the best batsman around, but he is a cheat, and he, I effect encouraged others to cheat. He is a cheat in the same was as Lance Armstrong was a cheat, only he got caught much more quickly. I think the ban was lenient, at least another couple of years, a few tests is no deterrent.

Others aren't Warner, who is just generally unpleasant.

I think we've just seen the advantage of a world-class spinner. I'm with Grumpy Bob that Ali is now unselectable - his batting confidence is worse than Broad's and now his bowling has followed suit. It seems cruel to play him.

I'll also go back to my common theme about a lack of mental toughness. Our batsmen should be made to watch Steve Smith's innings several times - an example of how to play the conditions, leave the ball as much as possible, and select the safe shots. Especially Roy.

Who would you keep *in* the team for the next Test?

Lol! You've literally just described ball tampering! Changing the condition of the ball!

Mike Atherton was a cheat as well.

BTW Lance Armstrong did more than cheat, if that's all he'd done it wouldn't have been half as bad and he'd have been like a few of his fellow pros.

In.

Woakes, Broad, Stokes, Root, Buttler, Burns, Roy (he may well learn, always a risk).

Denly, Bairstow (who has been poor for some time in tests) could easily go.

Moeen, Anderson out.

Bairstow to open in place of Roy, and give the gloves to Buttler

I don't disagree with what you say. He deserved a second chance and has taken it well. Good for him. I've no issues with that.

It's the Papal Candidacy that's annoying me.
