PBD but yes, the Monty Hall problem is a thing about people not understanding chance and probability which I'm aware of and get now I've seen them.

From Wikipedia:

"Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?"

The answer is yes because your first choice had a 1 in 3 chance of being the car, but if you switch you've got a 1 in 2 chance, despite the same things being behind the same doors.

Although I understand this, I also dispute it because door 1 is equally likely to be correct, therefore you still have a 1 in 2 chance of being right if you stick with your original guess. All this tell us is, if the car is behind door 1 then you made a luckier choice with the first guess

Intuitively that feels right, Dio, but the experts tell us different and who are we to argue?

Short and sharp today, although only got purple when it was all that was left.
I remember reading something about it sometime over the Christmas Break

Having read up, I am aware of the purple reason but not heard it called that or had that specific set of things

About This Thread

Maintained by Seratonin
Addictive puzzle from the NY Times site - where the Wordle game lives. The aim is to find four different groups from each puzzle
.
Colour code for the groups are:
Yellow = easiest group
Green = next easiest

Blue = more tricky
Purple = hardest group to connect.

Beware of the herrings i.e. links between clues which are designed to lead you down a path that doesn't exist.

Comments on your games are welcome but please use the spoiler option to hide any comments that might give answers away for others still working the puzzle out 😃

If you see a comment like PBD then it means Purple By Default (or whatever colour you are left with last without recognising what the link is)
