had a try at this chi running malarky the other night. Got the book for xmas. Really struggled with it and found it very put-downable. Went to a workshop at run & become Edinburgh recently.

Tried it on a 5k run last night. Found it ok for the first half but when you lose the posture or concentration I find the only way to get it back is to stop and start again.

First time I have attempted it from the outset. I have tried it a few times midway through a run and just couldn't get it going.
Wondered how long folks struggle with it before it kind of becomes a bit more natural.

I would like to crack it as in those brief moments when it all swings it is wonderful.

Thanks

FF it isn't a quick fix and takes a lot of perseverance and continued improvement. There's guidance available of what changes you should feel at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months but I can't locate at the moment. It has completely changed my ability to run. I didn't really have a month injury free until I read the book and since I did a workshop in January I've only missed a couple of days through injury. If you're serious about it you probably need a workshop. I baulked at the £70 but as injury prevention that has been money well spent - Edinburgh Workshops http://www.soulinmotion.co.uk/Welcome.html.

FF - little and often...is the big secret. Even just little runs to reinforce everything will make a huge difference.

Small Adjustment is the key, Relaxation Alin and run ;-).

Pick one area to focus on no major changes this is what I like about Chi rather than other brands of running (shh don't mention the POSE)

I found it helpful to video myself.
How you think you are running and how you are actually running are not necessarily the same thing.

Yes, that's very true... that reminds me, I ought to get hubby to video me to see what I'm doing...just as a check. It's been a while.

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
Chi Running is a running technique which was developed by Danny Dreyer an ultra marathon runner who is a long time runner and student of T’ai Chi. The two main themes are energy efficiency and injury prevention. It combines the central movement principles of T’ai Chi with the sport of running to create a technique that shifts the workload toward your core muscles, allowing your leg muscles to work less. The results are increased efficiency and a significant reduction in injuries.
