Given I was aiming for a substantial PB, I'll take my calf's rejection of participation as being psychic insight into the conditions making that PB impossible then!
From the direction, I could only really see the wind at about 12 miles making a difference, and then only for a mile or so before it gets behind you. But I do remember that section being tough two years ago, for no particularly good reason too. Maybe it creeps uphill ever so slightly and gradually and it's a double whammy it heading straight into the breeze.

We were ok on the Metric I think as we went out and back without that section but speaking to folk at work that did the full run they all say the same thing about the wind.

Mile 13 was the offender - my second slowest mile despite being flat - straight into the wind. There was also quite a headwind with the showers around 24-25, when you really don't want it!

The headwind will have cost a few seconds in miles 12-13, and the new finish probably a few more with the twists and turns and uphilliness, but I think the times being slower has far more to do with it not being an English Masters race and thus less of the elites.

On that tight finish I had some tw*t who kept stopping in front of me to stretch his leg then running past me again. There wasn't much room but he kept stopping in the middle of the ruddy path! He then stepped in front of me at the finish ... tw*t

Could have been me :-). I think I got off the line every time I cramped, but can't promise.
However I do find once you knock them flying a couple of times they get more careful!
My race gripe? People playing music out of phone speakers. How f*cking selfish and inconsiderate. If you want music, get headphones.

But to counter the gripe - how great was it to have the boss standing at the finish shaking hands

The slower winning times are almost certainly down to it not being the England Masters championships event this year and therefore not attracting the top age group runners in the country with the lure of an international vest.
I very much doubt the weather made more than a few seconds difference in that slight drag from 12-13, which is always a slow mile anyway because it *is* a drag (tbh, I thought the weather overall wasn't far from perfect, I've certainly run marathons in a hell of a lot worse!), mile 24-25 is always slow because of the hill, and whilst the twisty bit around the park was a bit slow, you didn't then have to do a bit of cross country at the finish unlike previous years, so swings and roundabouts really

See, now the finish might have been more fun with swings and roundabouts
