Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The name of the puzzle usually gives an idea of the tactic it is trying to demonstrate.

In this specific puzzle it's not a big win but you are essentially winning a pawn (rook 5 + knight 3 vs queen 9).

I agree that today's puzzle doesn't have an overwhelming endpoint. However black is comfortably up in a good position so in that sense the tactics have worked well and it's clearly the right thing to have done.

Solved Tuesday’s puzzle pretty much straight away - it must be an easy one as that doesn’t happen often:)

I encountered a training puzzle today with a difficulty rating of 2009, which is way higher than what I’m usually set, so I still managed to get +1 on my cumulative score despite getting it wrong. I won’t say what the answer is straight away, but I’d be interested to hear others’ take on it:

I don't think so, so this is a screenshot I took. I did repeat it until I found the solution, so I know what it is. I'm sure someone will get there though before I need to explain it!

Currently Jules, your approach looks to me a better one than what white actually does next, unless there's some logic to it I'm currently failing to see.

If you're feeling up to it, you could create it as a puzzle Funky.
