Thanks for setting up the thread FC. Today's puzzle was relatively straightforward, I thought. |

I agree. I saw the bones of the solution, but took a few tries getting the steps in the right order. If I'd been playing a real game in that position, I'd have cocked it up... |

What isn’t clear to me on today’s how black proceeds next? They quite often seem to end prematurely.

Why do you think it ends prematurely Dio? They aren't supposed to show the full game, just certain tactics.

I looked at this and I don't think I've ever seen a puzzle that isn't phrased as "Mate in 2" or "Mate in 3". This one seems to be a question of getting out of a sticky situation, but not of achieving a specific "win" objective, if I have understood it right? (Disclaimer: I am not capable of beating a chess.com opponent other than the completely random one.) |

You can click on the analysis icon and experiment with playing the moves beyond where the puzzle takes it up to. White knight to c2 would threaten the queen while protecting the knight on a3, making black queen to b2 a less fruitful move. But then, black queen to f4 takes out the rook.
