I've just had a look at their website.. What IS that image of runners passing the Castle? I've lived in and around Edinburgh and for nearly 40 years and I just don't recognize that view at all.

No idea SOAPM, but I see they have now published some blurb about the new route: edinburghmarathon.com Looks like a rejigged start section, but still includes the knee-and-ankle-torturing road surface of the Gosford House turning point? |

SOAP, , its like 2 pictures fused into 1 and I want to say the bottom half with runners is holyrood park and a picture of the Edinburgh marathon runners - but I am not convinced that it actually is. Could it be from Calton Hill which is somewhere I haven't ever been ?

Well I thin the new course is an improvement on the old, in the sense that runners will go through the City Centre and along part of Princes Street. Overall I'm not sure it would encourage me to enter the race again.

Nah, it's a bad Photoshop where two pictures have been rather crudely put together, If you look at where the houses meet the trees at the right and left hand sides, the join is obvious

The route seems to be similar to the early part of 2006 Edinburgh Marathon, but it feels to me like it could be a bit long as that's a mile or two added in town that its not clear where distance has been shaved off. Maybe the trafficc cone outside Gosford House. Unless the Finish line is brought forward out on to the main road again

The last time I ran it ( the half) I got chatting to some Spanish guys after the race. They said they'd come over for a race and a long weekend and had plenty of time for sightseeing. They weren't bothered that the route was not much in Edinburgh Just a random opinion, but that's what some visitors said.

I'll enter soon. I had already booked my flights and accommodation so was likely to anyway but was pondering over the half or full. This amended course is not a deal breaker in my mind.

Sh*t. I think that makes it def harder. Can you work out from the picture where the start is? Is it Teviot Row at the Uni? Then down the Mound and back up on to the Royal Mile? But up where? Playfair steps?! Actually, no, I think it's Waveley Bridge, Market Street, Jeffrey Street (that'll be a wee climb then) on to the Royal Mile, down to Holyrood Palace, then a random jink right along Queens Drive and turn back on yourself? Down to Restalrig and Craigentinny (nice!!) But after it hits the coast it's the same? Seems ok. I never minded the loop round Gosford. Mind you, I wasn't trying to go at any kind of pace clearly, back when I did it . But the tricky bits at the satart is no bad thing? Still a fast course? G |

HG, yeah, the rolling nature is early on so not an issue....might be a few tight spots for space though which in the early stages isn't the best Actually another bit where they might lose some distance is the current right turn in holyrood park t the roundabout at dynamic earth Overall though still a decent route and gives you a bit of the route in edinburgh |
