Kata went out and came back sans neckerchief, collar, bell or nametag. ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–

Peggรฝ is being quite nice about hers.

Those poor cats. I donโ€™t like putting a collar on them, and a bell is quite cruel for an animal that likes to move silently.

Merlin has cost me at least one full priced pair of trainers knee the years in collars. I gave up. Poppy has kept hers on so I reckon sheโ€™s less adventurous. Tried one on Shelby and it didnโ€™t last long so have never tried again.

Whilst it's a shame to take these measures, these fluffy little balls of love are also apex predators, so I see it as having some care for local nature. If Tiddles could be trained to only go for pest creatures (local vermin, rat-pigeons, magpies) and leave the "proper" birds alone, then there'd be little need. But we all know how well trained cats can be - the moment your back is turned (and often in front of your face) they're doing whatever they're not supposed to, with no shame, no care.

Fluffy. Adorable. Beautiful. Killers.

I wouldnโ€™t worry about them Dio they ditch them or work round them. The killing is less horrific or at least brought in less than two years ago and the garden is full of tweeting so Iโ€™m hoping nature is just about keeping its chin above water

I'm hoping we don't get more presents and that it settles.

I still don't have my head round having a pet and now knowing where it is. Our cats are not yet cuddly with us and don't really come to us in the garden.

I'm just crossing everything that it works out.

It took killer three years to be her current mix of resigned / affectionate. It takes a long cold snap to make her a lap cat. The other one is skittish so will accept affection wit a worried look

LF it's worth trying to get them used to at least being handled a few times a day for a bit of fuss - just a minute or two - unless they really, really object to it. That's what turned Ellie from a hissy spitty thing into a total cuddle monster (though I realise yours are older than she was and already used to a previous slave).

I don't like birds but at this time of year they are quite vulnerable and there is always a bit of a cat backlash in the town. Cats are non-native here so I do feel it is fair enough to protect the species that were here first. There is even a bylaw that outdoor cats must have bells. I might take the collars off in winter but meanwhile they can stick to spiders.
