Tilly is older (at 6 years old) and when I got her the Foster mum said that her poos were stinky when they tried cheaper pouches rather than the Felix as good as it looks... (I now feed her mostly iams dry food)

One pouch a day with a few biscuits sounds a bit low to me. We tend to use felix “as good as it looks” for all our fosters. It seems to go down reliably well with all cats and isn’t unpleasant to handle. We mix in random donated stuff and it often doesn’t seem as good. |

I had a kitten at the same time as older cats in a small house where I couldn’t feed them separately. Raven ate whatever the others were eating. I use Felix and Sheba mainly and some dry food. The eldest won’t eat in gravy and the other 2 won’t eat jelly 😹

My vet told me they changed the whiskas formula recently and now there is less animal protein and more veg. Might explain the toxic farts. We us happy cat dry food. It comes in lots of varieties. |

Thanks all. I'll change from Whiskas to Felix/Iams over the next week and increase portion sizes, which I think he needs anyway now that he's a wee bit older. The only reason I've been splitting the pouch is because I'm worried he'll wolf the lot and give himself a sore tummy. Going to continue adding dry because he really loves it (I'm guessing texture) and may start dropping the wet a bit in favour of dry as he gets older. He has also found out where I store the dog kibble. I have two very worried looking cocker spaniels, as it should be. |

My mum used to have a cat (and a dog) and learnt that defrosting liver cake (dog tidbits) at the back of the worktop didn't work. They were out of reach of the dog, but the cat would jump up have some and then oblige by knocking it to the floor for the dog!

Old Mum wrote: Rookie question(s). Milo is 8 weeks old now and still on 'kitten' food. He's currently on Whiskas kitten, half pouch morning/evening with a small handfull of kibble. It stinks, as do his poos, which makes me think it may not be very good for his guts. I also feel its not filling him because he's wolfing it. So my questions are: Am I under feeding him (yes, I know he's a cat and can never be proper fed) Is there a better alternative to stinky minky Whiskas? Happy to consider wet/dry/combo. How long does he actually have to be on kitten food? Because I'm already thinking he'd handle smaller portions of adult food but all the shop bought options state +1yr. Whiskas is like McD for cats. Check the ingredients. Look for the % meat content on the food you are feeding. We feed raw meat (either pre made or supermarket plus completer supplement) plus a high meat content kibble - best to look for at least 80% meat and grain free. Cats are not meant to be eating grain but a lot of the standard kibble has grain in it. When we got D she was already eating raw. When we got S she was on Felix. Her 💩stank and was often runny. We switched her over to raw and now their 💩is nice and solid and doesn’t smell. Well it prob does if you stick your nose right up to it |

I should add, if you want high meat content packets then look at natures menu kitten. That’s the only kitten one I know. Adult packets which are high meat are thrive - mine get this as a treat and love it. For biscuits there is thrive, applaws, purr and meow. I can’t remember the others. We use one made by a breeder, they just sell them themselves rather than by a third party. They have a Facebook group if you are interested called happytumz …. They do a variety of flavours and have kitten biscuits. They are all high meat content. At the moment mine are enjoying white fish and salmon
