Absolutely. Then will come the complaints the cushion smells of hooman cleaning and not like a proper cat resting place.

Little Edda (shelter name) ate and used her box overnight. She hides all the time but she lets me stroke her gently. I hope she can gradually get used to people.

Awww, she's lovely ITG. She'll come around with time...as fraggle knows from her Monty.

How old? It sounds like she's basically tame already, just a bit scared.

She is about 5 months, jda. Her mother is a stray and they have never been able to catch her; but she has 3 or 4 sets of kittens every year which the shelter takes in and tries to rehome.
She is very calm - she never tries to stratch or bite, but just sits very still if I stroke her. I am pretty sure she would be happier to be left in peace so I will not bother her too much and let her come out on her own.
I am told she really likes other cats so hopefully Pascal will step up and teach her that we humans in her new home are gentle creatures.

Ok. Our basic trick is to always make them come to us for food (we don't leave it out for them, beyond a very bare minimum in the first day or two if they are really petrified) and they soon learn to associate us with good things! We've tamed a dozen or so in the past year, the three black (+white) ones on previous pages being the current set, now ready for rehoming.

She sounds and looks very promising! Lasya hid when she first arrived too and she was tame and not a stray! I had a right panic, as I could not fing her ANYWHERE! Then she appeared on my pillow at night, purring madly: look, I found you! 🥰

Thanks, jda, I may come to you for advice.
I will leave food out for her for a couple of days so she does not feel starved as well as scared. I think she will need to know she has food to feel secure.
She is in a little office next to our tv room so last night (and in future), we will keep the door open when we are there so she gets used to our presence and hopefully less frightened.

Prim lived behind the washing machine for a bit. That was quite inconvenient. Little Edda looks gorgeous
