Giving the sad news and returning the cat to its owner was one of the saddest things I've ever done. poppyH - a number of years ago I encountered an unfortunate tabby on the Ashton Old Road heading out of Manchester - he just looked like he was sleeping and I was devastated. I'm not an emotional chap but I was in bits - fortunately my friend drove over to help take him to an out of hours vet, who was able to source his owners to give them the sad news. I hope your son wasn't as soppy as I was, and that he's OK.
