We have a spider problem in the auxiliary room - which is big and full of stuff and admittedly not very tidy. Which is the point of auxiliary rooms, n'est pas? Cats are not doing their job. My pet theory (haha, see what I did there?] is that Peggý has decimated the bird supply so now the spiders are taking over.

Anyway, I want to try to get rid of them and saw that vinegar sends them packing. Of course, risk of spraying vinegar all over the auxiliary room is that they decamp into the house.

But I am also concerned about the cats. I know vinegar is not toxic but apparently they don't like it. Their box and food is in the auxiliary room and I am reluctant to move them elsewhere, at least not in the longterm.

Any tips?

It's the horrible little black ones that run really fast. I saw FIVE in the three minutes I was in the room this morning feeding the cats - one in the sink, three by the bin and one in Peggy's bed! The latter, I very bravely evicted. There was only the mildest of squealing and no proper screams.

I can't offer any sensible advice, but have you tried giving the cats a stern talking to? Surely part of their job is keeping the arachnid population controlled?

Dio is an expert spider hunter
OK so he doesn't actually do much with them once he has located them but I am sure he stares them to death
or purrs them to death

Yes - spiders will attack for instance earwigs and silverfish!

I don't have earwigs and silverfish but I do have arachnophobia.
