Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

C Block - there's no place like it.

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to provide you with an update on the 2023/24 pay award for non-clinical staff employed by the University. You may find it helpful to refer to the 15 March Notice in the Reporter, which provides useful additional detail.

The pay award for 2023/24 will be 5%, except for those on spine points 15 to 37, where the increases range from 6% to 8% (see first table in the Reporter Notice). Part of this uplift will be paid early, effective from 1 February to 31 July 2023. During this period, staff will receive whichever is the greater of 2% or £1,000 (pro rata). The first payment will be made in the April payroll, backdated to 1 February. From 1 August 2023, the full uplift of 5% will be applied.

Staff are also reminded that the current Cambridge-specific cost of living payment, agreed by the Council to support staff over the winter months, will finish at the end of April 2023.

You think it makes your life complex? Think how Payroll feel.

They need to tie it in with tax, NI, pensions, etc; and then get some (probably antiquated*) payroll software to spit out the correct numbers and accurate payslips.

* as all payroll software feels antiquated, old or not

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Frontier Targeting Team Officer (FTTO). This post will be based in Dover with the potential to have another base at Folkestone in the future.

I didn't say pleasant, ethical, or something I'd be willing to do. I don't even think it would be exciting, I imagine it would be fairly depressing work.

But Frontier Targetting Team Officer? That's a great bit of marketing right there.

Would there be scope to subvert the job description? For example, adopt a team anthem such as "Let 'em in" and train officers to adopt an open door policy by developing their blind-eye turning skills?

Do you get a Davy Crocket uniform as a modern day frontiersman?
