[It's a life saver for us, in its defence. I work from home a lot - going to be a lot more, I suspect - and it's brilliant for instant messaging, screen sharing and VOIP. We're meant to be moving to MS Teams over the summer though]

[I wonder if you're using a newer version of Jabber. We were meant to be upgraded but the upgrade was delayed due to incident response. We are told not to use it when working from home but people do as it's easier than having to use a mobile. Screen sharing doesn't seem to be working at the moment and connecting to conferences has been hit and miss for weeks. It was great before]

[screen sharing is more hit than miss - but you can't instant message a screen grab which is a proper pain. I've completely failed to find anything hat looks like an 'about' box so I can't tell you what version we're running]

[I hated MS teams to begin with, but it has won me over - particularly when working from home]

[I'm sure I can figure out MS teams, but since none of my colleagues are likely to manage it's a bit pointless. I've hardly received an email this week.]

[We use Teams, Zoom & Skype (both versions) for communicating with different customers/suppliers, they all have pros and cons but the video conferencing is poor on all of them. Not used Jabber though, may have to give it a look]

"Today, after careful consideration of the escalating impact of COVID-19 around the world, [CEO] and the ELT have made the decision to recommend that [BigCo] colleagues work from home, effective immediately until further notice. We will reassess the situation on a weekly basis and keep you informed. ..." [redacted another 16 paragraphs about how great we all are, etc.] "...we will get through this by doing what [BigCo] does best, by taking care of each other and our communities." |

Apart from the inconvenience of dealing with the occasional humongous proof/print file via VPN, I'm quite looking forward to some peace and quiet through the week as well as at the weekend.

Sad news: Dear Colleagues Given current health concerns due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, I have decided to cancel the financial planning roadshows scheduled for 17 and 20 March. To anyone who had booked a place, I offer my personal apologies. These events will be rescheduled at a suitable future date, and a separate invitation sent. Best wishes, |
