Better than short like Manchester but still very shoddy for an expensive marathon.

"turnaround point at Rottingdean" We were trying to work out where it could have been wrong, that was the only place we could think of that it could have been. Normally Hugh Jones is there and re measures the course early on Sunday morning - I didn't see him this year which isn't proof he wasn't there, but we normally see him around. In other news, it's alleged on facebook that P1 was paced in the latter stages by someone who hadn't run the full distance, the leader had been a long way ahead for most of the race and was still leading by 60? 70? 80m? with 500m to go. If there was a pacer he'd dropped out by then. Finish time was quite slow (relatively speaking ) at about 2:33 |

The turnaround point was definitely in the wrong place. Almost as far as the 2010 and 2011 points. My GPS was correct until mile 9 and then miles 10 onwards were apparently 0.45 miles beyond where they should have been. I did notice that miles 23 and 25 were about 20m earlier than normal, so assumed that the finish line would be too. I did see a couple of the slower pacers who were walking along with the stragglers. The warm weather or injury must have affected them as well as the rest of us! |

Apart from the measurement issue, I hope everyone got around OK and returned home safely. There was quite a few ambulances and paramedic responses out there yesterday. Finished in just over 5:30 (about 40 minutes more than I had hoped for a month ago) and would have been under that if it wasn't for the extra distance. I'll put the rest of it in a blog. |

Results are still unofficial and there will be issues with timing chips having experienced that myself. I have dropped 39 places after a further 52 results were added since this morning. Interesting comment made by Tom Naylor on the website's press release section. In addition to what we already know, he has said, "Finishers will be contacted with more information about their times and an official adjustment to the course length for results and qualifying times." |

First time I've run Brighton Marathon since 2017. Other than the covid alterations, it was good to get back to running the course. I was running OK, until the New Church Road section, though the residents hose pipes and sound systems kept me going on the out and back. The power station was bleak as ever, with no musical destractions. Some great fancy dress runner, including the chap in a Tiger costume. There was also a chap near me carrying an electric ukulele, stopping to play a turn every mile. Brilliant crowd support along the seafront. I finished with a time of 5:21. No Fetchie pub meets these days, but I managed to meet some of my running club friends for a few beers. Thinking about entering next year, but might just keep it to the 10k. |

The guy in the costume said he was quitting years ago. Great to see him and a rhino back this year. I was probably more pleased that they didn't pass me! Missed not having Fetchpoint (kwala, sallykate and co) near mile 19. A new thread has already been set up for 2022. fetcheveryone.com/forum/brighton-marathon-2022-62026/ Unfortunately, for family reasons, I can never do the post-race meets. Even pre-race get togethers don't always work out. Not to say that I haven't met a good number of Fetchies (10k and marathon) over the years at the event. |

Has someone at Grounded Events been given their P45 this week? There has certainly been enough bad press regarding the error. Based on this afternoon's instructions, my 26.2 mile time would have been nearly five minutes less.
