Perhaps specifying a finishing date of September 30th, rather than a starting date of September 1st would be the way to do it.

You will lammo: if you write something as soon as you finish the first book then later other people's comments will trigger your memory. Unless they are amazingly rubbish communicators of course. And I can't imagine there is anyone on Fetch who falls into THAT category...

Makes sense to start the discussions on a set date, I.e. 1st of the month. You can make comments beforehand, but no spoilers.
Previous chooser nominates next person, decision to be made at least 7 days before end of month to enable sourcing of tome.
