Ossuary - it's a word I know since going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, when we were shown a burial place consisting of a hollow in the rock with a shelf inside it; the dead body was apparently left on the shelf (and the "cave" blocked with a large stone) for several months until there was nothing left of it (the body) but bones; these were then collected together and put into an ossuary, a stone box with a lid; we were shown one of those too. Presumably the burial place could then be re-used.

Once again I find myself reading a book (The Count of Monte Cristo) which I can only keep abreast of by listing the characters as they appear, together with the page numbers on which they are first encountered.

I'm starting the year with a book from each year of my life I'm at 1986 I've struggled with this as I have to do it in order started many but abandoned

That's Ruth Rendell under another name, isn't it Owlie? Read them years ago but I wonder how dated they feel now? The BV books were more psychological, IIRC, than the Wexford novels under her own name.

Yes LD better known as Ruth Rendall from what I've read about it totally different to the Wexford Stories
