The latest Rebus novel by Ian Rankin, the 25th, is out today. I nabbed my copy from Tesco, £12.50 Clubcard price. (I feel dirty, but there you go)

It's called Midnight and Blue, a title that harks back to the 8th book in the Rebus series, Black and Blue, the novel Rankin cites as being the one where his writing moved up a level, as did his sales. Although not publicised as such, unlike Exit Music (2007, #17), I very much suspect that this might be the last in the series, with death rather than retirement on the cards for John Rebus. I should emphasise that this is not a spoiler as I've read no more than the opening chapter teaser that was sent out last month.

I’m struggling to get into it, too, which is disappointing as I’m a fan of her work.

Going to give it a proper go at the weekend and see how it goes

Watching Saturday Kitchen and Stanley Tucci is star guest. (a previous book choice) I've never seen him on tv he's quite a funny guy

I have Hangsaman. As I'm about 150 pages into a 900 page book, I think I'll put that on hold and start Hangsaman

I have Hangsaman, and have read the first 22 pages. It doesn't seem to have chapters, which is a bit of a blow. But it is very intriguing, with an undertow of "disquieting", and I shall most likely stick with it.
