I want to believe that TULOB is still as impactful as it was when I read it at 18.

I didn’t read TSH until I was in my forties. My main memory of that was having no idea what era it was set in. It seemed to me to be an American equivalent of Brideshead Revisited.

I think Post Office is easy to criticise from a contemporary pov, but holds up well. Bukowski’s protagonist has depth

I tried again with Tom Robbins fairly recently and still no joy.
In my twenties they rocked my world.

Just finished The Goldfinch. I loved it, but I found the end disappointing. I don’t think it’s an easy novel to end satisfyingly, but what we got was (to me) disappointing and out of character either the rest of the book. It felt like the author talking, not Theo.
