Still deciding here, will make up my mind by tomorrow. All my TBR pile (unusually) are non-fic, and I know we mainly tend to go for fiction - but don't have to.

I have how to make an atomic bomb in my non fiction list. That’ll sort me, it’s possibly even longer and more intimidating than the infinitely long jest

Looking up "Richard Rhodes: The Making of the Atomic Bomb" gave GREAT ALTERNATIVES TO THIS - THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB by Richard Osman which then only had TTMC in hard- and paper-back as great alternatives. These two had subtely different reviews 'Such a beacon of pleasure' KATE ATKINSON, and 'A little beacon of pleasure' KATE ATKINSON.

well I suppose once you have made a bomb the risk is you want to check it works. There were a number of small pacific islands - bikini was one - that suffered as a result of that

Lol... ok I consulted my TBR pile, and nothing really fitted the bill. I knew nothing about it before today, so if it turns out to be turgid and unreadable, I won't be offended. It's just come out in paperback, shortish (191 pages), and short listed for the International Booker Prize (which is announced early June) - so you should be able to get it discounted on a deal (Amazon and Hive both have 2 quid discounts on it). As I've been reading quite a bit of physics stuff recently, it ties into my current interests, and also it seems at the very least a little bit experimental. Phillip Pullman and William Boyd raving about him on the cover, and I'm intrigued by these fact/fiction kind of books, so I'm looking forward to reading it even if everyone else goes errr what...? So When We Cease to Understand the World - Benjamín Labatut Here's John Banville's review in the Grauniad: theguardian.com |
