Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I think I have two options:

1) I liked the sound of but it seems to have been a really divisive and controversial book
2) Popped up on Amazon first as a choice and also sounds like a good read and is nice and cheap if you are signed up to that kind of stuff

I will ponder on it overnight.

I haven’t read this months book yet but should catch up next month. I’ve started Great Apes from my TBR pile (1997) but I can feel Will Self sneering at me and i don’t think I cba

I like the sound of divisive. I frequently contemplate binning my Will Self books on account of him being such an arse, especially where his ex-wife (now deceased) was concerned.

I have read and quite enjoyed a number of Will Self books but I agree, you can feel him looking down his nose at you while you read. Even his best books, like Great Apes never really escape that.

I wouldn't worry about picking a divisive book in the wake of "High Rise", which poll shows 5 votes of 6/10 or less and 3 of 10/10 and nothing in between!

I just started reading John Barth's "The Sot-Weed Factor" which is great fun so far, but it is 800 pages long :o/

AST is only in hardback at present, but we all seem to be reading it (or to have read it). But I must say I prefer a paperback, especially as much of my reading takes place in bed.

Long way behind on the sprinklings of poetry - excellent. Some what behind on the reading - I've read the Single Thread but need to set down my 2d. Just finished Amateurs in Eden, a biography of Nancy and Lawrence Durrell: Corfu comes out of it well, Lawrence Durrell less so.
