Deep in Nigeria for “the book of memory”. Good stuff

Sad about Terrance Dicks. I met him in the late 70s - half his life ago.

Northanger Abbey read. I had some help found it hard to get into so I got an audiobook but followed book and read along as it was spoke. A "dramatic version " different voices for each of the characters

The Booker shortlist has been announced. Somewhat uninspiring at first glance, some old faces and some new. Atwood's book hasn't even been officially published as yet.
Margaret Atwood - The Testaments Lucy Ellmann - Ducks, Newburyport Bernardine Evaristo - Girl, Woman, Other Chigozie Obioma - An Orchestra of Minorities Salman Rushdie - Quichotte Elif Shafak - 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World
Anyone read any of these yet?

Nope
Though The Testaments is due to come out soon so guessing not many have read that one unless they have a special copy

Uninspiring is probably the wrong expression. There are probably some books on there that I ought to read, but none that I immediately want to read.

Me neither. Nice to see women authors in the majority on the list though.

It seems highly suspect to me that a book that isn't yet out is on the shortlist. WTF is that about?

It’s because it’s the publishers who submit books for the prize, not a panel selecting the entrants. Some of those make it on to the long list which are then read by the judges, often pre-publication.
You could submit your book for the prize.
