I’ve just spotted an ACW recce of leg 4 (or 2 I suppose) posted on strava by Stolly. Anyone with waterproofs to test could have an ideal opportunity coming up maybe ;-)

On which subject, Dougie seems to be plugging away at it. I'm on leg 19 with him tomorrow, by the looks of things that will be all night.

Alan Heaton and Joss have attempts in 1985 and 86 then continuous completions of the Wainwrights seemingly go on hold for 28 years. Then Stevie B wakes a monster up and now 8 years later we can barely get through a week without a new attempt starting!

Does anybody know the definition of "unsupported" in this context?

James Forrest tweeted "...Tomorrow morning I'll be setting off on a non-stop, single round of the Wainwrights in a "self-supported" style..."

suggests "self supported" means you can cache food along the route?

To me 'self-supported' implies you can cache food and buy food etc on route but you can't be supplied by anyone else or paced. If you were going to carry everything from the off and only take on water I think you would describe it as 'unsupported'.

I read earlier ( but can't find it now to link - think it was an Inov8 facebook post ) that he'd have food caches. For accomodation he planned to bivi a couple of nights, use bothies and youth hostels. He would be doing all his own navigation, water purification and carrying of equipment on the hill.
