I know of one potential BG attempt in that period but that wasn't in my "to be watched" list, partly because I may well have a ring side seat for part of it and partly because it's "a run of the mill" get round attempt (by which I mean it's undoubtly special but only to a relatively small number of people rather than a wider audience). I'm sure there are a number of others as well. Many folk are looking for stuff to do in the absence of races and the BG is an obvious target. Though that may be changing soon, at least in England. The NDW 100 seems to be assuming UKA will be issuing permits for races from early August and that fits with this week's announcement from British Orienteering.

Back to Sabrina. I understand the alternative route round Stony Cove Pike, Hartsop Dodd etc wasn't taken because Pasture Beck in the valley below Hartsop Dodd was in spate and they were worried about crossing it. Sleep deprivation also caught up with her quite badly round Ill Bell and her support (including Paul) made her take a short nap and that's why the Troutbeck break was brought forward to before Baystones.

That makes sense. I was struggling to sleep so ended up watching the dot, and she seemed to really slow out to Gray Crag and even more so back up to Thornthwaite. Route planning on the fly probably didn't help, but even so the tracker hardly seemed to move despite updating frequently.
Around Kentmere is some of my well-trodden ground where I've got a good set of runs logged. I keep being tempted to check my time against hers on some of the sections. And then deciding that I'd probably just be disappointed if I did

Great to hear the inside info ff !
Going back to that section you talked about where she lost 55 mins to Paul. Against her own schedule she lost 12 mins, over a period of approx 3 hours. If she could carry on at that slower pace to the end ( I know these things rarely pan out that way, but bear with me ) then that would be 96 mins over a 24 hour period, call it 100, and less than 3 days to go, but let's say 300 min loss, ie between now and end approx 5 hour loss against her schedule.
She's already almost an hour behind schedule, so that would put her approx 6 hours behind schedule and the schedule has 6h 34m built in vs Paul's time !!

FF- I'm not sure what BOF is going to announce - I've got a feeling it might still be "virtual" races (as technically they're not currently insured). We'll see on Monday.
Bear in mind govt guidance is still max 6 people socially distanced.
I'm keeping an eye on this from a hockey point of view too. At the moment that's not allowed under the guidelines too.
But basically I'm working under the presumption that UKA/FRA/TRA/parkrun etc cannot license races (for insurance purposes) until govt advice allows for "mass gatherings" over at least 100+

FF did you listen to Elson's chat about how UKA permits are not required as long as you have insurance? It's at the start of the John Kelly podcast.

But no insurer is going to give insurance if you're going government advice and that of your sport's governing body, surely?

True Gus there are several ways of looking at it. And the 100 mins a day loss against her schedule fits pretty well with what has happened over the last 2 days. However, I sense that it's starting to drift away from her on this section. Now that has happened a 2 or 3 times before but largely towards the end of a section where she has then benefited from a quick stop that has both (remarkably) rejuvenated her and given her some time back against the schedule. This time she's got a long haul to Martindale and her current rate of loss to her own schedule is now rising to more like 170 mins a day (17 mins in the last scheduled 90 mins). And ultimately how far behind Paul she is matters because that's who she's in effect racing and so far the only way she has been able to stay with him is by resting less. She hasn't so far been able to gain time on the hill and eventually there won't be sufficient time to be saved by not resting to pull back the gap.

Totrio I understand the point about independent insurance but ultimately races use UKA permits and insurance because it's an awful lot cheaper than doing it yourself (especially if you are asking someone to insure something the sports governing body won't sanction). Now I suspect in the long run UKA will not look too kindly on race organisers who decide to rock the boat at the moment. So if NDW100 arranges it's own insurance this year then it will be doing so for the forseeable future because it probably won't get a permit and therefore it's future costs have just taken a potentially large hit. So though Centurion may go down that road I think they are banking on the current UKA restrictions not being extended beyond 31st July and time trials of the nature they have proposed for the NDW100 being allowed (and that's how they get round the 100+ rule fozzy, you break the event up into mini-gatherings each within the restrictions). The fact that UKA haven't asked them to remove the references to the race being under a UKA permit from the website would suggest that UKA may well be complicit in that assumption because of where discussions with the government are at. I certainly hope that is the case because if it is the rest of us can get on with working out how to make our races work too.

Big route difference to Paul coming up shortly - she does a long out and back to Rest Dodd and The Nab, whereas Paul left them until a few hours later coming back up from Martindale.
Got to say Paul's route ( Steve's ?? ) looks more intuitive, but not counted the contours !
The Knot to Brock Crags : Paul 6h 54m, Sabrina's schedule 6h 48m
On the section of that which is the same, ie Rampsgill Head to Beda Fell, Paul took 4:54 and Sabrina scheduled for 4:58 but includes a road stop at Martindale and no idea how long Paul stopped for, but looks longer than Sabrina's scheduled 20 mins.
All in all doesn't look that much in it
