they might - but I can't!
When I'm out I can guestimate quite well how many miles various options to home are - wouldn't have a clue in KM.

I sew in yards and inches too - can't help it, I'm old ;)

Well that's the issue isn't it Chrisity, the foot is such an insignificant unit that there's practically no difference between 2500 and 3000feet.

But there's a *big* difference between 750 and 800m

10miles = 16km. And really that should be 15km. Which would take me less time, so automatically I get faster.

Personally, I have no idea about pace measured in minutes per km but instantly know minutes per mile #old

Thanks Gus - had a look at that route difference and interested to see how it pans out. The down and up looks tough, but the distance win? who knows...

There's a fair bit of elevation change btwn Stony Cove and Hartsop anyway - so as an out and back it adds up - just not as short and sharp as her loop.
As you say, depends on your strengths ?

I had heard there was a difference but not really looked at it and having looked at I haven't a clue which way is quicker? The descent off Hartsop Dodd is very steep, ditto the climb back up but the drop into and out of Thresthwaite Mouth isn't exactly flat, nor is it an easy descent, especially in the dark. I will be fascinated to see the outcome on this one.

Looking at the time stamps on Paul's tracker he took pretty much bang on 2.30 to get to Thornthwaite Crag after leaving Kirkstone. Sabrina's schedule says 2.56. Compared with their relative paces when Sabrina has been going OK that seems like too big a difference to make it worth while? It will be interesting to see how long it actually takes.
