Is there really a risk of drowning in a pool sprint though ? most tend to be about 6 foot at the deepest.
i'm still of two minds about doing my 1st sprint tri this weekend. i'm still stopping in the middle of the pool when i get tired, that or going too hard once i feel i've lost my breathe. typical triathlon tricks like swimming on my back for a while or resorting to "catch-up" drills haven't been perfected yet.
Tried swimming with a tempo trainer to slow down my strokes and force a rhythm and that seems to be helping. Swimming's HARD

There's also all sorts of gubbins related to transitions and timing, far more kit than for a simple running race. At least there was at the recent Kendal tri my wife did.
Don't think you need to worry about being a poor swimmer, by the end of his segment one guy was stopping several times per length, stopping for a breather and then taking another 5 strokes...got a huge cheer when he finished! Luckily he was in an edge lane so could grab on to the side of the pool. Lots of people started with a thrashing crawl and changed to head-up breaststroke after a few of lengths. But be realistic about your time to get in an appropriate wave.

jda i think i put 20mins as my 400m time, even though i have done it in 11mins when pulling.
i'm hoping i'll be ok as long as i get to rest a bit at the walls. Though this is exactly what my coach is trying to avoid me doing, which in turn is why i stop for a breather mid-length.

Definitely no problem stopping at the ends from what I can see. Lots of people “needed to adjust their goggles” etc To be honest I was encouraged by the poor standard of the swimming, seems like I would fit comfortably in mid-pack somewhere if I wanted to do one!

Hello people. Am new to this thread. And to triathlon.
I'm doing a sprint triathlon in June and am worried about lots of things.
Currently my biggest worry is that I've just started cycling in cleats and I don't know what I'm supposed to do when running in to transition. Will changing from cycling shoes to trainers cause a big delay? Should I switch back to flat pedals for the triathlon?
Any help appreciated.
