Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

LMH do you substitute the flour for a gluten free one?

I do Hanneke. I use Dove's Farm (or Freee as I think it is now) brown bread flour.

I often make soda bread using Rachel Allen's recipe. I tried gluten free flour with it once, the resulting flat round disc could have been used as a deadly weapon

And why I am tapping into your knowledge! Thank you!
So, three weeks gluten free and: virtually no bowels symptoms left! My histamin levels are raging but as of today seem to be calming down too. I was warned of the "histamin storm" coming off antihistamins would cause. Did that back in October. Trying to find out what causes my allergies, I initially tried excluding dairy because of sinus problems. That actually aggravated things so next was gluten.
Post nasal drip much reduced, nose no longer streaming 24/7, sinus pressure much better!

Thinking is: a lifetime of not realising I am celiac or at least seriously gluten intolerant has caused Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. This and other symptoms have been suppressed by 27 years of anti-histamins and 38 years of NSAIDs to deal with chronic pain and inflammation...
I am slowly reducing the NSAIDs too...
Fingers crossed that gluten is the cause of a lifetime of ill health! At this stage in my life, if going gluten free solves it, it is a minor issue compared to previous (mis)diagnoses!

Hanneke - I don't think that an antihistamine would mask the symptoms of gluten intolerance.

No, but it would mask mast cell activation syndrome. I found out about the gluten because of coming off 27 years of anti histamins. Trying to find out what causes my symptoms.
I have also been on 2400 mg of ibuprofen slow release for 27 years and before that on other heavy duty NSAIDs.
They were enough to mask the obdominal.pain that had me in a&e all through childhood until I moved out to uni and was prescribed the painkillers... As no-one ever managed to find out what was causing my array of issues! Including chronic anemia...

I finally made some mince pies today, they taste good, I used the jar of mincemeat from 2015. Too much faffage rolling out the pastry though.
