thanks R4R - did they give you all the risk factors like PV stenosis, phrenic nerve damge and oesophagal perforation (over and above the *usual* ones of stroke, tamponade and vascular problems). I felt like they were almost trying to tell me that they didn't rate their confidence:(
Apparently I have to stay in overnight until the surgeon does his rounds so expect to be discharged by lunchtime the following day.

ah... got up for a final run before my op tomorrow and HR was running at 120 - no paplitations at all - I was completely unaware of it! Ditched the run of course. Carried on for close to three hours even after I took the pill in the pocket dose of flecainide.

Brilliantly thanks. Took longer than I ehad expected at 2 and a half hours, but I was dischaged on Tuesday at lunchtime and told I could swim and do gardening type stuff the next day if I wanted but no running till first review (2 months). Swam on Thursday very gently and not far and going for a swim now.......:):):). The only downer is that I still have to take the meds until September
Hope you get a permanent fix soon

Het Macca - that's great. The prospect of being able to run properly again soon must be exciting...
...for me, I ran a HM at the weekend (Snowdonia) - I blogged it. I kept as best I could below 165 and managed to get around without AF fo rthe first time in a year. It was great tto sprint the last 200m again. I'm doing another half in 2 weeks (flat this time) so will repeat strategy.

Macca - Hope it's going well, and everything is settling down. It'll take a few weeks or months, so don't worry if you get the odd blip
DBG - good luck for Sunday

Sunday...not good..if you read the blog.
Kept HR at or below 165ish all the way, meaning I had to hold back fro most fo the race. Got to 12 in decent shape heading for a totally acceptable sub 1:30 and thought I'd try to press home. At aboput 12.3 things were gettinga little unsteady but I thought I could hold on. At almost exactly the 20K mat, the old ticker started ticking at 180 bom then quickly hit 200. I jogged home - except for the last 200m when things seemed to have calmed down so I blasted it but had to slow about 50 metres out. Managed 1:31:10 -which was about 1:30 and 30 places off what it should have been.
Have been referred to electrocardiologist and have an appointment on July 10th. Can't wait.

no blips so far No endurance or strenuous exertion for another month or two either so I'm just able to run at 70% HR.

All these messages seem to be from the male gender. Are there any ladies who suffer from AF? I am seeing a cardiologist this week but have been trying to run/walk for af ew weeks. I was diagnosed with AF last October and am on Warfarin. Nobody in the medical world will advise me on the running aspect of things so I'm a bit lost.

it's definitely not restricted to the men Gracie - I have it too, but I have periods of AF that last weeks and sometimes months, and then not. I'm not a doc, but Plodding hippo is - and hopefully will pop in. Are you on other meds apart from the warfarin? I agree that it's not easy to get firm advice re whether to run or not, however these are all questions to ask the cardiologist when you see them - will it be the first time to see the cardio?
