Hi everyone. I had a cardioversion on 30th Jan and have been in sinus rhthymn since. Ive been told I should stay on betablockers indefinitely but I have been able to get back to some decent training, mostly on the exercise bike as my left calf is sore. So far ive managed to push my max heartrate up to 153 with no problems. Hopefully on the 1.25 mg dose of Bisoprolol I can get back to some good fitness. My best exercise bike session of 815 calories burnt in a hour equate to 7:51 miling for the hour. Not too bad considering 9 months of disrupted training.

excellent news , how does 153 compare with pre-operation? Are you hoping to push it higher?

going on the old 220 - your age formula you should be getting within about 10 beats of your MHR already.......

I guess my max heartrate is 175 or around that, as thats what I saw when doing an easy treadmill run when I was in AF and on betablockers. I saw 190 when I went back into AF after coming off betablockers following my first cardiversion. I guess the betablockers are knocking 10 to 15 beats per minute off my max and maybe thats a good place to be. If it was having any less impact it may not provide sufficient protection from going back into AF.

Hi all - am to be refered to cardio specialist for possible cardioversion.

THought I'd let you know about my last AF in the Wrexham half - it started after 10 miles and the HR went to 205. I slowed and it went to 160, but of course picked up a gain when I went faster. I didn't mess about for long and settled for jog home until the last 100m whenIi couldn't( stupidly I know) resist a sprint. Later I downloaded the HR info - it had gone to 250!

I meant ablation sorry.

Macca53 - too right I feel the palpitations! It's an instant feeling, whether I am running at 150 and it suddenly goes 190 or I am sitting at rest at 45 and it suddenly goes to 90. Racing is actually quite interesting as usually before the full hit I get a bit of fluttering, if I back off straight away on pace I can often delay the onset of full AF - sometimes until the end of the race.

evening all. I went for my pre-admission clinic today, where they took nearly an armful of blood *cue giggles from folk of a certain age*. I was quite surprised when they said they expected the op to take 2-3 hours - I've been thinking to myself that it would be a 30 min - an hour job :(

I was warned it might take 2-3 hrs but was about 1.5hrs from getting on the table to being wheeled out
Probably another hour in recovery before going back to ward
A friend was in and out the same day, but I was in overnight
I suppose everyone is different
